The Open/Alternative Textbook Program

With support from BMCC’s Office for Academic Affairs, the BMCC Library and CETLS coordinate the Open/Alternative Textbook Program to support faculty interested in replacing commercial textbooks with open educational resources (OER) and other no-cost materials (e.g., library resources, websites). From 2015 through 2017, over 70 faculty across 15 of BMCC’s 17 departments have completed the OER seminar series and implemented zero textbook cost (ZTC) courses.

In 2017-18, BMCC received funding for OER/ZTC initiatives as part of the New York State Department of Education’s support of this work at both CUNY and SUNY.
